Gateway Registers Voters

The selection of a particular president impacts every American?s life: such measures as taxes, public works, social responsibilities, and civil rulings that hit us on a local scale stem from national defense to economic policies to energy reforms to the passing of bills and the ratification of laws. We all have our personal values and opinions that correlate to government policy. Therefore, it is critical that the views and virtues of all American citizens are expressed in the presidential election through their nominations of particular candidates.

To encourage passive voices to speak in this particular election, Gateway High School students from The Future Is Mine (TFIM) organization set up voter registration booths in order to facilitate the process of completing the necessary voting forms. On the night of open house at Gateway High School, September 18th, 2008, Lindsay and Maria operated the registration table, while Becky did so outside the Monroeville Kindercare day care center on the evening of September 30, 2008. Everyday people passed by the booths. Some were inspired by the students' concern in ensuring that the maximal quantity of voters took part in the 2008 election and, thus, chose to register. A few who already signed up to participate in the election commended their efforts and acknowledged the importance of what they were doing. Likewise, registration forms were passed out to senior homerooms, so that Gateway High School students eligible to vote had the proper opportunity to enroll. These sessions resulted in the enrolling of 23 inspired citizens as well as many more people receiving valuable information.

Thus, a few local high school students serviced our nation?s citizens by devoting some time to emphasize the significance of playing a role in the path of America?s future, accomplished though the critical act of voting.
