Elizabeth Forward

The TFIM team at Elizabeth Forward traveled to their Middle School on December 19th for an assembly on career paths and how to successfully get there. The project originally began in October when the TFIM team created a survey.

Fayette Co. AVTS Coloring Book

The FCAVTS Peer to Younger Peer project was the development of a coloring/activity book about FCAVTS. It started out as a page featuring each individual shop, but later became some coloring pages featuring the shops and some activity pages, such as a word find that listed the program names.

Central Westmoreland CTC's Career Exploration Day

The Central Westmoreland CTC P2YP project has become an annual event within the school. Students from 10 sending schools were invited to participate in a career exploration day.

Third, Fourth & Fifth Graders Invade MVCTC!

Mon Valley CTC TFIM students put a new twist on an old project that they have done in the past for their Peer to Younger Peer project . Students in grades 3 through 5 from a local elementary school traveled to the CTC for a tour of the school and participated in hands on activities in each shop.

Bentworth Hosts Eighth Graders

On Wednesday, May 14, Bentworth's TFIM team helped familiarize the eighth graders with the high school. It was a quick trek but a far-reaching one.

Middle School Presentation

The Belle Vernon Area TFIM team completed the requirements for the Peer to Younger Peer Project by doing a presentation to each of the middle schools in the district. This presentation was a showcase of everything the high school has to offer. It was a way to help the 8th graders feel comfortable when they come to the high school next year.

Beth-Center

The Bethlehem-Center TFIM team completed their P2YP project at the middle school. They were able to meet with all the 8th graders through their social studies class. Each period they started with an ice breaker where the students had to figure out which category they belonged to in order to make groups.

Brownsville Peer to Younger Peer Project "Book Reading Day"

The Brownsville Area Future is Mine Team ventured to Nemacolin Woodlands for a complete day of work. The team participated in four work rotations throughout the day in jobs varying from the reservationists, spa management, retail positions, front desk clerk, etc.

Charleroi Peer to Younger Peer Project "Career Scavenger Hunt"

On March 17th, 2008 the Charleroi TFIM traveled to the Elementary Center to perform their Peer to Younger Peer Project. The idea was to have a Career Scavenger Hunt for the 4th graders.

West Mifflin High School and Emerson Elementary School

When I Grow Up, I Want To Be . . . was the topic for the P2YP project conducted on Monday, May 12, 2008, by the West Mifflin Area High School TFIM group. The afternoon focused on working with 44 third grade students from Emerson Elementary School. The goal for the day was to provide career awareness to the students in various career fields.

Forbes Road

The P2YP project for Forbes TFIM student project team was our Hands On Tour which took place on March 13th. Approximately 600 middle school students from Plum, Springdale, Gateway and East Allegheny attended.

California High School

The California TFIM Student Project team members went to California Middle School to complete their Peer to Younger Peer project. They educated the 8th grade students about the electives they will be able to choose in high school.

South Allegheny "Healthy Choices and Careers"

South Allegheny's TFIM Student Project team decided to raise awareness for healthy-living choices among the second through sixth grade students at South Allegheny Elementary Center. Promoting TFIM and careers also were topics that they touched during their time there.

Mapletown Career Fair

The Mapletown Career Crazies have been busy preparing their projects for this year. Examples of the careers that were explored are a family practitioner, mechanic, realtor, state inspector, and teacher.

East Allegheny and Westinghouse Elementary

On Thursday, January 10th The Future Is Mine team from East Allegheny High School went to Westinghouse Elementary School to give a presentation to the young students there.

Clairton Peer to Younger Peer Project "Careers are Everywhere!"

Carina and Brooke work with second grade students in Clairton City School District creating awareness of careers and demonstrating their future vocational path. Their peer to younger peer project focused on mock situations and demonstrations allowing the students to get an inside look of each career.

Steel Valley P2YP "All The Things You Can Be"

Steel Valley High School The Future is Mine members visited Franklin Kindergarten to enlighten the students on the many jobs available in today's society through story time.

McKeesport High School and Cornell Intermediate School

On March 7th, the McKeesport TFIM students created a Mini-Career fair for the students at Cornell Intermediate School. They decided to create stations based upon the five Career Clusters that their high school uses for Project 720, and they are: Arts and Communication, Business, Technology and Finance, Engineering and Industrial Education, Human Services and Science and Health.

Woodland Hills and Rankin Elementary

The Woodland Hills TFIM team traveled to Rankin Elementary for their Peer to Younger Peer project, where they taught students about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Topics included helping the environment, left/right brain thinking and proper mental and physical training.

Waynesburg Central High School

TFIM at Waynesburg Central High School has evolved from just a career research club to an organization that strives to educate others of unique careers. For our Peer-to-Younger-Peer project, The Future is Mine members formed groups and chose uncommon jobs, and then each group planned activities and information for elementary aged students.

Monessen's "My Career Adventure"

The Monessen TFIM team completed their P2YP project on November 21, 2007. Their project took them to fourth grade classrooms for three consecutive weeks. While there, team members conducted career interest surveys and taught career exploration lessons using a curriculum called My Career Adventure.

Steel Center and Steel Valley and Barrett Elementary

Steel Valley High School Students in partnership with Steel Center AVTS students and 54 fifth grade Barrett Elementary participated in "The Future is Yours Day" at Steel Center Vocational School.

Nina, The Artist

Nina, a TFIM Student Project member from Woodland Hills High School decided to explore art for her Individual Project. So far she has attended three out of the four sessions affiliated with AIU3 & VACOP through her school.

Michael, The Architect

For as long as Michael, a member of Elizabeth Forward High School's TFIM Student Project team can remember, he has always had a great interest in the design and development of buildings. His seventeenth great grandfather, Giacomo Barozzi, was a world renowned Italian Architect of the sixteenth century and designed and constructed many astounding structures during his lifetime, some of which still remain today. Several of Giacomo's masterpieces include Villa Fernese, Church of the Gesu, Palazzo Bocchi, S. Anna dei Palafrenieri, and St. Peter's Basilica where he worked along side Michelangelo.

Stephanie at the Aviary

From Sunday March 23rd to Tuesday March 25th, Stephanie, a TFIM Student Project member from Woodland Hills High School attended a job shadowing program at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. On day one, she spent time shadowing Elizabeth Levine, a volunteer at the Aviary.

Brianna, The Chemist

Brianna, a TFIM Student Project member from Elizabeth Forward, chose to investigate the career opportunities and requirements of a chemist. Her interest in a profession in the field of chemistry first came to be when she learned about the composition and structures of matter and the basics of chemical reactions. To better understand this career, she shadowed Dr. Edward Bittner, a professor of chemistry at Penn State Greater Allegheny and researcher at the United States Department of Energy.

Lindsey, The Occupational Therapist

Lindsey, a Junior at Thomas Jefferson High School decided to job shadow an occupational therapist at McKeesport Hospital for her Individual Project for TFIM. She became interested in the field of occupational therapy after taking an interest survey on the internet and reading a lot about the field.

Jacki, The Pediatrician

Jacqueline, a Charleroi Area TFIM team member, recently learned that becoming a pediatrician isn't as easy as it seems. While completing her Individual Project, Jacki researched what it takes.

Amber, The Veterinarian

West Mifflin Area TFIM Student Project team member Amber decided to job shadow a veterinarian for an evening to complete her Individual Project. On November 12th she reported to Pleasant Hills Pet Hospital to shadow Dr. Sacha Snyder.

Mock Interviewing at Charleroi HS

In early November, the Charleroi TFIM completed their Peer To Peer Project. The team decided to hold mock interviews for the school's seniors. Members of the graduating class were interviewed by members of the Charleroi community. This process helped the seniors learn how to react to real-life interviewing situations.

FCAVTS Inside Design

The FCAVTS Peer to Peer project was the pilot program called Inside Design. The drive behind the program was to get the students thinking about school improvement and how it could be accomplished with the resources that currently exist.

Mon Valley CTC's Interview Tips

Mon Valley Career and Technology Center TFIM students wanted to help their peers learn skills that they will need to get a job. So, with this in mind, the Mon Valley CTC team went out to their sending schools and shared some tips and tricks for passing an interview and landing that first job.

Steel Center Shoots SLC Footage

The Steel Center AVTS TFIM student leadership group had originally planned to set up a studio and shoot an interview with our members who participated in the mentoring program at Bombardier. The intention was to add the interviews to the website for all to view.

McKeesport

The school district decided to focus on the PSSA testing scores this year. The TFIM students worked closely to create a festive spirit during the weeks leading up to the PSSA testing. They created posters to hang in the halls and also created a DVD that was shown at the celebration the day before PSSA testing was to begin.

East Allegheny Mini Job Fair

On Monday April 14. The East Allegheny TFIM group held a mini job fair for both juniors and seniors. This job fair was to help the kids gain a better understanding of what types of different jobs are out there for them upon graduation and what type of schooling that they would need to gain the job of their dreams.

Clairton HS

Brooke and Carina, both TFIM students at Clairton High School completed their peer to peer project using a research paper. They used a standard format which included two job shadowing experiences in local area businesses.

Belle Vernon

Members of TFIM invited Senator Rich Kasunic to visit our school and speak with students. Upon his arrival on January 4, he received a tour of the building by students.

South Allegheny P2P "GOAL Day"

The Future Is Mine students at South Allegheny High School participated in "GOAL Day" on May 15th. GOAL Day was a combination of career events created to inspire South Allegheny students in possible future careers.

Elizabeth Forward HS

The Elizabeth Forward TFIM team completed their Peer to Peer project on April 4th. The event was held in their high school library and focused on soft skills that are life skills necessary for success after high school.

Steel Valley P2P "Opportunity Fair"

From NASCAR to Fuddruckers, the goal for this year's fair is to expose high school students to various future career options and to introduce them to prospective employers.

Woodland Hills High School

The Future Is Mine at Woodland Hills High School completed their Peer-to-Peer Project by introducing the Prom Promise. The TFIM members composed an announcement, which is read over the PA system, giving facts and statistics about the dangers of drinking and driving.

Wilkinsburg P2P "Career Fair"

Wilkinsburg TFIM students organized a "Career Fair" as their peer-to-peer project. Students contacted corporations, businesses, non-profit organizations and successful individuals from the surrounding Pittsburgh region to participate. Students organized the fair into three sections.

Thomas Jefferson "TJ is Making Change"

The Future is Mine at Thomas Jefferson High set their sights on making change for their peer to peer project this year. The students felt the best way to get other high school students interested in exploring their future careers is to give them a place that is inviting, comfortable, and informative to do their research.

Life After Gateway

On Friday March 28th the TFIM team at Gateway High School invited former Gateway graduates from all over the region to come to their school and share their experiences with the rest of the students.

Central Westmoreland CTC

Central Westmoreland CTC's TFIM team is currently engaged in their Peer to Peer project. The TFIM students started off by discussing their ideas of how they could interact with peers at their school and help provide a service at the same time. .

Life After Bentworth

The Bentworth High School TFIM Team chose "Life After Bentworth" as their P2P Project. The entire senior class was involved in this endeavor. To begin, the TFIM team had everyone gather in the library. On one side, seniors could gaze at the rather ostentatious table filled with college freebies and prizes. Directly in front of them were the alumni that had graduated in May of 2007.

Choices Planner at Beth Center HS

The Beth-Center TFIM team facilitated the Choices Planner website with all grades at their high school for their P2P project. The website contains personality profiles, career planners, and a step-by-step process of what is required for each career.

Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh presents Youth Main Street Advisors

On Monday, December 10, a premier of the videos created by Brownsville Area High, Forbes Road Career and Technology Center, Monessen Senior High and Trinity High School students was shown at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, in Oakland as part of their Youth Main Street Advisors project.

Zachary, The Sailor

Zachary , a Belle Vernon Area High School TFIM Student Project member is interested in joining the U.S. Navy. Obviously, shadowing is not an option for him! He decided to start his research on the Internet at www.navy.com and also had the chance to interview a Naval Academy graduate, Craig Peton, via email. The online research gave Zachary a good idea of what life would be like during and after the Navy; and he found, for him, it is full of opportunities.

California Area TFIM Team Explores Careers at the Zoo

The California Area TFIM team decided to do one project as a whole, instead of individual projects this year. By doing one project they were able to help the new members, discuss the day?s events and grow closer as a group.
